My friend invited me to take photos of his band, Mute Union, playing at a bar in Kitchener. They were going on stage pretty late so I had some time to prepare for the shoot on other bands. I had my SB-600 and an off camera cable, so I pointed the flash at different things to bounce it. That produced a sharp, well lit, photo. I was going to go with that and shoot the whole show in that style until I realized it was boring, it showed no movement, and it did not convey the energy of the performers. That's when I remembered about dragging the frame. I've seen it in many photos, I knew how to recreate it, but I had never tried it myself. I set the shutter speed to 1", raised the flash and pointed straight at the performers, and swirled the camera around. I'm really lucky I remembered about this, it made a huge difference in the photos and saved my ass.
