Richard Laviolette & The Hollow Hooves performed a great show Saturday night, at The Family Thrift Store. More photos can again be found in the Thriftstock Gallery. Here's the band's MySpace page, listen to Sincerely, Liza (Bucket Song).

I used my 50mm 1.8 to photograph this band, the atmosphere was a lot different than at the Friday night show, and I felt that I would have disrupted both the band and the audience if I attempted to constantly bounce the flash off the ceiling. I was shooting at 1/80sec to freeze motion as much as I could and 2500 ISO to expose the photo properly, but at the same time it caused a lot of noise or grain. There was a lot of blue noise, just blue dots that were all over the photo that didn't belong. I got rid of them by desaturating only the blue colour from the photo. This, made the photo look more "film-like".

You can check the camera settings for all the other photos by looking at the comment section.

  • Cool photo. I like the expression on his face. You're lucky you were able to get so close to the band, otherwise the photos wouldn't have been so good.
